Q: What is your title in FBI?
A: Supervisory Special Agent Scott A. Rottman
Q: How long have you been working with the FBI?
A: I have been in the FBI for 15 years. Prior to the FBI, I was an Officer in the United States Air Force.
Q:Why did you decide to become an FBI agent?
A: When I was young, my mother was robbed and her purse was stolen in Miami, FL as she was getting into her car. It sounds silly, however, during the same time frame I opened a piece of chewing gum that was extremely popular in the 1980s called Bazooka. Inside each wrapper of Bazooka chewing gum is a comic strip called Bazooka Joe. This particular comic strip asked the following question, “What three letters is every robber afraid of”? The answer inside the wrapper was “F.B.I.”. Ever since reading this comic strip, I wanted to be an FBI Special Agent. I knew if I joined the FBI, I would have the opportunity to fight and prevent the types of crime that touched my family when I was younger.
Q: What is your favorite part about the job?
A: My favorite part of the job is the hunt. Whenever I targeted a subject or criminal enterprise I would put pictures of them on my desk and act like they were daring me to catch them. These criminals are committing crimes and thinking they are getting away with it. However, I always knew different. I knew that if I worked harder at my job then they did committing crimes, I could stop them. In the FBI, one person can stand against hundreds and make a real difference. I have locked hundreds of people up, wiped out entire criminal enterprises, prevented murders, shootings, arsons, robberies, caught serial killers and serial rapists that no one else could catch. That is the best part. Doing things that no one else could do. Doing things that most people would not want to do. This is extremely rewarding for me.
